Fifteen years ago I started a podcast called Developing Perspective. It was “never longer than 15 minutes” and chronicled my journey of becoming an indie app developer. I did that for around four years and then joined up with Marco Arment to do a show on the same topic called Under the Radar. We did that together for 10 years before bringing it to a close.
At the time, I thought my podcasting had come to a natural end. While there was always news to discuss and craft to examine, I found that I had less and less to say. Well, a lot has changed since November of last year. 😳
So I’m dusting off Developing Perspective. I don’t have fixed plans yet for the format or frequency, but I feel like I have something to say, and I want a venue to explore what it is now like to be an indie app developer. My first episode back is called Pivotal. It wrestles through why being an indie app developer right now feels so “pivotal”, in both senses of the word. There’s the constant, week-by-week change in our tools and workflows, and there’s the bigger structural shift in what it even means to “make” apps.
I don’t know where this journey will go, but if you’re curious to find out with me, consider giving it a subscribe. So let’s get started.
